SNL Skewers the Oscars’ Overwhelming Whiteness in This Great Award Show Sketch

Sometimes comedy is the best criticism. After a week of contentious debate about the curious lack of diversity in this year’s Oscar nominees, SNL delivered this terrific sketch, which sees Cecily Strong run through the list of the year’s best actor performances at the “Screen Guild Awards.”

The joke: said performances are the marginal, often meaningless roles white dudes play in critically acclaimed movies starring black people. Come for the spoofs on Creed, Straight Out of Compton, and Beasts of No Nation; stay for Kenan Thompson’s side-eye, which is in fine form.
